Devoted to helping others, Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Ramzan Zakir, MD, RPVI, FACC, FSCAI has been named a Patient Preferred "Physician of the Year" representing the state of New Jersey. This prestigious honor highlights Dr. Zakir for his leadership, excellence in patient care, and inspirational attitude toward healthcare. 
  As a Doctor of Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Ramzan M. Zakir has been practicing for nearly two decades and currently treats patients at the state-of-the-art RWJPE Heart and Vascular Institute of Central Jersey. 
   Dr. Zakir has been rated five stars by his patients who praise his bedside manner, expertise, and trustworthiness.

  Since 2009, he has performed thousands of successful coronary and endovascular procedures. Prior to performing complex coronary interventions, he assesses patients at the state-of-the-art RWJPE Heart and Vascular Institute of Central Jersey. He also performs complex endovascular procedures at Cardiac and Vascular Interventions, an office-based laboratory he founded in 2020. 
  Striving to improve patient outcomes, Dr. Zakir remains on the cutting edge of technology. He sees an increased use of CT scanning to better identify patients at risk of heart attacks using a calcium score. Also, incorporating physiology into CT scans and angiography is a major advancement that better identifies which patients will benefit from coronary stents. Furthermore, balloons to treat calcified disease, stent technology, advanced 3D imaging, and artificial intelligence continue to improve, enabling practitioners to treat patients with more complex diseases safely.

Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Zakir earned his medical degree from Rutgers University, before completing both his internship and residency at UMDNJ- New Jersey Medical School, spending an additional year as Chief Medical Resident in the UMDNJ program at Hackensack University Hospital. He completed his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the same educational venue, holding the position of Chief Fellow in his final year. He also completed an additional fellowship in interventional cardiology at Beth Israel Medical Center and did advanced training in carotid stenting at Lenox Hill Hospital. 
  Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, interventional cardiology, and endovascular medicine. Dr. Zakir has also excelled as a clinical associate professor of medicine at Rutgers Medical School-Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas University Hospital, where he is also the current director of high-risk PCI and research. 
   As an illustrious scholar, he is known for his distinguished contributions to prominent medical publications. 
   Dr. Zakir has spoken at regional and global conferences and continues to serve as an invited faculty member for numerous international conferences. He is the co-founder of the New Jersey Cardiovascular Foundation and Chairmen of Cors and Vasc At The Shore, which brings cutting-edge medical education to the region.
  Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system). 
  An authority in his field, Dr. Zakir has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Marquis Who’s Who, 2022 Distinguished Worldwide Humanitarian Award, the IAOTP Top Interventional Cardiologist of the Year recognition, and Continental Who’s Who Cardiologist of the Year acknowledgment. Additionally, he was named a Top Cardiologist by Castle Connolly Top Doctors, New Jersey Monthly Top Doctors, and NJ Top Doctors, to name a few. 
For his professional efforts, he was selected for a prominent feature in Fortune magazine.
